The plaque is the highest award by the Budapest Bar Association and could be considered as the "Academy Award" for Hungarian attorneys. It is named after the well-known writer and attorney-at-law, Károly Eötvös, who was instrumental in developing the rule of law in Hungary and acted as defense counsel in a number of high profile court cases in the 19th century.
